It isn’t always an option to skip morning sickness during your pregnancy. While nausea and vomiting are the recognizable symptoms for this condition, there are several other symptoms that accompany it. Many of these are easily treated, but some cases require medical attention. The best course of action, for any symptoms you are worried about, is to discuss these with your doctor. We will be discussing the best way to treat some of these symptoms of morning sickness.
While pregnant it can be hard to eat since one of the most common symptoms of morning sickness is nausea and vomiting. Then at the same time as all of this your body will also start craving certain foods.
This is considered the norm during in pregnancy though, since your body chemistry is changing to accommodate the baby. Peppermint and ginger are often found to combat nausea. Even though it will seem unnatural, be sure to listen to your bodies cravings. You will have to relearn your eating habits during this time. Making certain adjustments may not remove all of the symptoms of morning sickness, but it may make them more bearable. A very small portion of the population will experience symptoms so bad that medical attention is necessary. If you have severe nausea and vomiting, cannot keep down any food at all, if you are dehydrated, have an increased heart rate or you are losing weight, these are all signs that you should immediately seek medical help. The technical term for this is hyperemesis gravidarum. This condition is rare and occurs in less than one percent of the pregnant population. Just to be on the safe side, if you are concerned that this might be your issue don’t wait, call your doctor.
One of the things that you need to be sure to remember about having morning sickness symptoms is that you are unique so your symptoms will not necessarily be the same symptoms that other people are experiencing so not all remedies will work for you. In terms of food, don’t ever force yourself to eat anything that you have strong negative feelings about. The only possible exception to this is milk, since you need quite a bit of calcium when you’re pregnant. If you find that you have an aversion to milk, you might be intolerant to lactose so try drinking a lactose free milk. You might also try eating yogurt and milk products from goats and sheep because these are very high in calcium and protein and are easier to ingest by those who can’t handle cow’s milk. The general rule is to figure out which foods aggravate your morning sickness symptoms and to avoid them while making sure that you still get good nutrition.
Even those who have mild morning sickness symptoms feel miserable during this time. If your symptoms are tolerable, you can usually get through them with home remedies combined with lots of rest. However, you should see your doctor if you are in real pain. In the end, morning sickness symptoms are different for everyone, regardless of how similar they may appear.
